The beauty of custom cabinetry is that it goes far beyond simple storage. Its primary purpose is to deliver personalized, high-quality solutions that maximize space while reflecting your unique style. Custom cabinets are also a smart investment. They enhance daily living and add long-term value to your home. Since every detail is tailored, they can fit perfectly into any space, no matter how unusual, while offering superior craftsmanship, great organization, and a cohesive design that elevates the overall feel of your home.
At Meg & Co, we’re passionate about showing what’s possible. In this post, we’re sharing four unique cabinetry designs that we created in partnership with Premier Woodworking at one of our recent custom homes — each crafted to inspire you and spark ideas for your own space.
1. Kitchen: Two Tone Cabinets
This kitchen showcases a truly unique approach to custom cabinetry that we’d call two-tone done right. The design features two walnut-stained hutches that bring natural warmth and richness to the space, paired with the rest of the cabinetry painted in Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter (HC-172).
Revere Pewter is a timeless “greige”—a warm gray with just the right balance of undertones. Depending on the light, this color shifts beautifully. Therefore, it can appear soft gray, subtle beige, or reveal hints of green or blue. Its versatility allows it to work beautifully alongside natural elements like walnut while still feeling crisp and modern.
The walnut cabinets on sides add depth and contrast, highlighting the craftsmanship of the whole ensemble and giving the kitchen a layered, custom look. Together, the two finishes create a harmonious blend of warmth and sophistication—perfect for a space that’s both hardworking and welcoming.
2. Clifford Office Built-Ins in Revere Pewter
In the Clifford project office by Meg & Co, the floor-to-ceiling built-ins are the star, finished in Revere Pewter by Benjamin Moore (HC-172). This warm gray—often called a greige—was chosen for its ability to shift subtly with the light. In this space, abundant natural light highlights its earthy undertones, allowing the cabinetry to feel grounded yet soft against the richness of the walnut coffered ceiling. The vertical reach of the built-ins elongates the room’s proportions, making the ceilings appear taller and the office more expansive. Their design also establishes symmetrical balance, framing the desk with perfect proportion and drawing the eye upward toward the beautiful ceiling. This combination of paint color, cabinetry scale, and millwork sets the tone for a space that feels very refined.
Every other detail plays into this composition. A modern schoolhouse pendant light hangs in the center, reinforcing the room’s symmetrical layout while serving as a perfect focal point. The cabinetry combines open shelving for styling with closed storage for function, ensuring the workspace can stay clean and practical. Paired with upholstered armchairs and thoughtful details, the office demonstrates how custom cabinetry and carefully selected finishes can shape not only the look of a room but also set the tone for its atmosphere.
3. A Laundry Room Dressed in SW Chatroom 6171
This laundry room is all about calm, refined style, thanks to its custom cabinetry painted in Sherwin-Williams Chatroom (SW 6171). This muted green-gray has a natural, grounded vibe that instantly makes the space feel welcoming. Its green undertones cool the color down just enough to keep it fresh and modern, while still offering the warmth of a versatile neutral.
We paired Chatroom with a crisp marble backsplash in an elongated hexagon pattern—a classic design taken to the next level. The mix of cool gray and white in the marble ties beautifully with the cabinetry, creating a clean, timeless palette that feels fabulous.
One of the reasons we love Chatroom is its adaptability. In bright natural light, its green undertones shine through, giving the space a subtle freshness. In dimmer light, the gray becomes more pronounced, lending a cooler, quieter look. This shifting quality makes it a reliable choice for hardworking spaces like laundry rooms, where lighting can change throughout the day.
The result? A laundry room that feels thoughtfully designed—a perfect balance of function and beauty.
4. Mudroom Walnut Cabinets
A mudroom earns its name, and this one is ready for anything. We chose walnut cabinets with a custom stain for this space, and it’s a decision worth celebrating. Walnut is a premium hardwood, denser and more luxurious than oak or maple. Therefore, the finished cabinets feel substantial and display a gorgeous grain. Its rich, deep color hides everyday scuffs and dirt beautifully. Consequently, it’s perfect for spaces that catch wet shoes, muddy boots, and backpacks.
Since walnut is dense and naturally non-porous, it offers a level of water resistance that’s ideal for a high-traffic entry. Its natural oils help repel moisture, so the cabinets can be wiped clean quickly after a rainy day or snowy drop-off. Keep in mind that walnut cabinetry is heavier than most woods, so professional installation is key—but the durability and elegance make it absolutely worth it.
We paired the closed upper cabinets and deep lower drawers with open hooks for quick access. When kids come flying in with raincoats and backpacks, everything can be hung up instantly, no excuses and no clutter. The result is a mudroom that looks stunning, functions well, and makes everyday life just a little more organized.
