At Meg & Co, we believe every detail counts when it comes to designing a kitchen, and counter stools are no exception. Based in Twin Falls, Idaho, we’ve crafted countless custom kitchens that perfectly reflect each homeowner’s unique lifestyle, personality, and taste. One element we love playing with? Seating. Earlier this year, we explored the differences between counter and bar stools and now we are taking a closer look at counter stools specifically.
In this post, we’re highlighting some of our favorite counter stools featured in our recent custom homes. From rope-woven styles that add coastal feel and texture, to barrel-shaped stools designed for comfort and conversation. Each stool serves a purpose, elevates the space, and helps tell the story of the kitchen it belongs to. We’re excited to share how these stools bring our custom kitchens to life.
Woven Rope Back Counter Stools
Rope counter stools bring a unique blend of texture, craftsmanship, and relaxed chic to any space, especially your kitchen or dining area. Their creation draws inspiration from the iconic Hans Wegner chair designs—where sculptural form meets functional comfort. This nod to classic Danish design is reimagined here through tightly woven cord, blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor living.
These woven stools are a beautiful way to introduce natural texture and coastal charm to your kitchen, bar, or dining area. With a rich taupe and white rope intricately wrapped into a loom-style pattern, the stool adds visual interest while remaining timeless. Its reinforced aluminum frame and solid mahogany legs—finished in a weathered gray—offer durability without compromising style.
Topped with a fixed pumice-colored seat cushion for comfort, this stool is the perfect balance of casual and refined. We chose these counter stools for our Taylor project. Whether your home leans traditional or transitional, this piece feels right.

Scalloped Counter Stools
At first glance, these counter stools remind us of the elegance of 17th-century Italian Renaissance armchairs. They are tall-eared and grounded in solid walnut. These counter stools don’t carry the elaborate Venetian detailing. Their gently scalloped, wave-shaped top rail offers a soft, refined silhouette in place of sharp edges or ornate carvings. The result is a stool with moodiness and character, understated yet rich with presence. These scalloped counter stools are a beautiful addition to this custom kitchen of our Charles project recently featured in the Magic Valley Parade of Homes. They are bold, memorable and make a lasting impression.

Barrel Shape Counter Stools
These wide-seat barrel-shaped 26-inch upholstered counter stools were the perfect choice for the custom kitchen in our Hayden project. Inspired by the legendary barrel chair first introduced by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1937, this beautiful silhouette has evolved through the decades. It has retained its signature comfort and graceful form. With their curved lines, they contrast beautifully with the clean edges of the custom cabinetry and linear countertops. More than just stylish, they’re incredibly comfortable—ideal for gathering, lingering, and enjoying long conversations around the kitchen island.

Black Backless Counter Stool
Counter stools with backs offer comfort and support—ideal for long conversations, casual dinners, or slow weekend brunches. Backless stools, on the other hand, bring a sleek, minimalist look and can easily tuck under the counter when not in use—making them perfect for smaller or tighter spaces. If there is no luxury of a wide walkway between your sofa table and kitchen island, backless stools are a smart solution. Ultimately, it’s about choosing what fits your space, lifestyle, and overall vibe.

Americana Modern Cane Back Counter Stool
The Americana Modern Cane Back Counter Stool is a stylish revival of traditional American design with a fresh twist. Rooted in early Americana craftsmanship, the stool features a hand-woven cane back. This particular element is borrowed from 18th-century colonial interior design. Furniture from that era is especially known for its simplicity, durability, and use of natural materials. The cane detailing adds a breezy, organic texture, while the clean lines and light finish bring it into the present day. The upholstered seat adds comfort without compromising the stool’s airy, open feel.
The curved back of these counter stools echoes the lines of the custom stucco range hood. They together create a cohesive, intentional design moment. The subtle arch adds balance to the kitchen’s overall geometry and ties together the space in a way that feels balanced and symmetrical.
This stool feels right at home in a light-filled, coastal-inspired kitchen, a modern farmhouse island, or a transitional space that mixes old and new. If you are going for classic Americana charm or a curated, relaxed aesthetic, the cane back comes with warmth and texture that elevate the everyday dining experience.
This stool fits beautifully in a light-filled, coastal-inspired kitchen or modern farmhouse island. It also works well in transitional spaces that mix old and new elements. If you’re drawn to classic Americana charm, this style adds warmth and is rather appealing. The cane back brings organic texture to the space. It’s a relaxed yet curated piece that completes the look of any kitchen island.
